EO-SYSTEM / SOVEREIGN MARITIME INTELLIGENCE

Mission one

EDISONSAT

Our pathfinder for sovereign AI-MicroSats

EdisonSat is Plasma Orbital's concept prototype for next-generation AI-enabled microsatellites designed for persistent maritime awareness.

Named after the inventor who turned invention into an industry: Thomas Alva Edison.

01 — Why a pathfinder

Prove the pipeline before you fly the fleet.

Built as a pathfinder platform, EdisonSat allows us to validate key technologies — including onboard AI processing and vessel detection workflows — before future orbital deployments. Space systems are engineered incrementally. The capability we fly is the capability we have tested.

02 — Featured subsystems

The intelligence chain, end to end.

Five subsystems take EdisonSat from photons on a sensor to an actionable alert on the ground.

01

AI Payload Processing Unit (PPU)

The AI brain

Where raw imagery becomes intelligence, in orbit.

  • Powered by an NVIDIA Jetson processor
  • Runs an in-house edge-AI model that processes satellite imagery in real time and generates actionable insights onboard
02

On-Board Computer (OBC)

Spacecraft operations

Keeps the satellite flying and the mission running.

  • Based on a Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) processor
  • Runs NASA F´ flight software for spacecraft operations
03

Sensor Suite

Eyes on the water

The imagery the AI payload reasons over.

  • RGB camera payload
  • The current demo runs the AI pipeline on real high-resolution satellite imagery rather than a live orbital feed
04

Communications

Getting intelligence down

The link from orbit to operator.

  • UHF link operating at approximately 850 MHz
  • Demonstrates simulated real-time relay satellite communication
05

Ground Station

Command and control

Where the mission is commanded and the data received.

  • Powered by NASA F´ ground station software
  • Enables command and data transmission and reception

03 — Specification

The orbital ISR system, drawn to spec.

Deployed elevation, payload-module internals, and the operational maritime schematic — from AIS signals and multiband radar return to on-board AI processing and the downlink to a ground station.
